Initial Ideas.....

My initial Ideas for this was based around realism, however, focusing more on the development of new technology that currently surrounds us with the making of super realistic films such as Avatar.

However, a part of the course I have always struggled with has been 'The Uncanny Valley'. I understand the basics but this has always been an area I have wanted to feel comfortable with and it also falls into my original idea for the final essay.

Whilst in class the part of the brief that specified 'equivalent to 4,000 words' made me begin thinking about the delivery of the hand in.

I am very comfortable with the essay layouts and feel that it is something I should stick with, however it would be really nice to have my work bound as if it was a scrap book or old journal. I feel that I should utlise the fact I am on a masters course and do something different with the hand in style. But also it means that the project will still be in essay form. This would mean finding a company that would do it for me but also taking into consideration time put aside for early completion.

The reason for choosing realism/technology/ uncanny valley for potential topic subjects is due to the reason that:

Realism - This is a subject I have not touched since my first year and it was one I had always planned to return to.

Technology - It is an exciting time involving technology with new cameras being made and it is something that, being in the industry, I should learn about as it is the future of my practice

Uncanny valley - It is difficult to avoid this having chosen the two above, but it would be nice to have a more indepth idea of this topic.

Beginnings......

Hi my name is Sonia Ioannou, and I am a Masters student in 2D Digital Animation. This blog has been set up for a module that I am currently studying called Media Discourses, as a way of logging and recording my activities, as a process of reflection and commentary, and as a means of archiving findings, work, etc.

Apart from the blog, Media Discourses is split into 3 further aspects.

1) The Reader - Consisting of referencing and quotations, and commentaries as to how they will assist me in my studies. This is the start to 3) the Project, which is the last hand in for this project.

=Worth 25% of the grade

2) The Enquiry Proposal - 400 word summary of the direction I plan to take for the final project. This provides a working title for the project, identifying the issues involved and setting out the methodologies that will be used. It also lists key sources and materials to be used.

=Worth 10% of the grade

3) The Project - Equivalent to 4,000. This that further develops the ideas, etc, from the 'enquiry proposal' into a deeper discussion, demonstrating understanding of theories as methodologies, applying them to develop an understanding of particular examples related to my own discipline areas and interests within it.

=Worth 65% of the grade.
